Increased tensions between the United States and China along with growing concern over privacy issues have led President Trump to announce that he may be banning the application as soon as tomorrow via executive order.
ByteDance Ltd, a private company based in China been under pressure by the United States to divest its share in Tik Tok – a social media platform which is free and allows user to upload and share short videos. The good news for users is that Microsoft is considering acquiring it, according to Josh Rivera’s article in USA Today. Rivera writes:
Government officials have in recent years cracked down on Chinese companies, including telecom company Huawei. There is concern that Chinese companies may share data with the Chinese government. TikTok and Huawei both deny this.
